Archaeology Career

“The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future. These famous words have never been more true and it’s the job of an Archaeologist to explore the past and learn all they can to prepare everyone for the future of the Sims world.” ~ Join Text

When Jungle Adventure included an Archaeology Skill, I was delighted but when I found it didn’t have a career, I was disappointed. Especially when Discover University introduced a History Degree, so I decided to do the job myself.

What Makes It Different?
I know there are other Archeology careers out there so I wanted to make this one a bit different. So this career has degree requirements for promotion! (More on that below).

Technical Details
The career has 10 levels and no additional branching. There are 10 work from home assignments available should you wish to use them and there are no daily tasks.

Work From Home Assignments:
Study Archaeological Findings <– This is the first assignment
Practice Programming
Write For Two Hours
Take 5 Photos
Research Local History
Study Selvadoradian Culture
Update Archaeological Society Website
Study Archaeological Photographs
Write Archaeological Notes
Give Archaeology Lecture

The career requires Discover University and Jungle Adventure.
At each level, Sims gain their progress towards vacation days a little faster (default value is 0.2; I’ve set it to 0.4). The reason I’ve done this is because an archaeologist Sim will need to travel to Selvadorada a lot, so I felt it fair that they can gain vacation days a little faster.

Custom Interactions
In order to provide a better experience when your Sims are working from home, I created a small set of 7 custom interactions on the computer, which are used as Work From Home tasks or promotion requirements. These can be found under the Career/Archaeological Studies menu on the computer. These are:
– Study Archaeological Findings
– Research Local History
– Study Selvadoradian Culture
– Update Archaeological Society Website
– Study Archaeological Photographs
– Write Archaeological Notes
– Create Digital Reconstruction

Translations
The career is presently in:
~ English (by me)
~ Russian (by Taraumara)

Degree Requirements
I’ve never been a fan of career jumps from degrees so I rarely use them in my game. I am, however, a fan of including degrees as promotion requirements so that’s what I’ve done here. If your sim wants to progress beyond Level 2 of the Archaeology career, they’re going to need a History degree; additionally, if they aspire to reach the very top of the career, they will need a Distinguished History degree. This means that, unless your Sim gains a Distinguished History Degree, they won’t reach level 10 of the career.
In the CustomDegree version, Sims will require a degree in either History OR Archaeology. This version does require Zer0’s Custom Degrees Mod.

Known Issues
For reasons known only to Sims 4, in spite of completing all work from home tasks, sometimes the boss is disappointed with the work done. I don’t actually know why this happens but, as you can see with the notifications above, you get the money (although less than anticipated). Just the notification is a bit off. This is a known issue and as yet, there’s no known solution.
